Dr. Ákos Kozma Receives UNHCR’s Representative in Central Europe

On 31 May 2022, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights received in his Office UNHCR’s Representative in Central Europe Mr. Roland Schilling. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, Ombudsman for the Rights of National Minorities Dr. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay and Secretary General Dr. Balázs Könnyid.

Children’s Day in Városliget

On the occasion of the International Children’s Day, the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights also “moved” to Városliget on 29 May 2022. Our staff members offered the children colouring books, playful quizzes and many gifts, while the adults could discuss children’s law issues.

Bilateral Meeting with Croatian Ombudswoman

On 24th May 2022, Dr. Ákos Kozma, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary held a bilateral meeting with the Ombudswoman of the Republic of Croatia, Tena Šimonović Einwalter in Nagykanizsa. During the meeting, the state institutions for the protection of fundamental rights of the two countries, as well as the mandates and powers of the commissioners were discussed.

High-Level Recognition of Hungarian Ombudsman for his Efforts Made for Ukrainian Refugees

At the 23 May 2022 meeting of EU Ambassadors, Valiant Richey, OSCE Special Representative and Co-ordinator for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings expressed his appreciation for the extraordinary efforts that Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma and his Office have been making to provide assistance to Ukrainian refugees by being present at the border.

Pro Cultura Minoritatum Hungariae Awards Handed Over for 2022

On 20 May 2022, Dr. Ákos Kozma, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, and Dr. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, Deputy Commissioner, Ombudsman for the Rights of National Minorities living in Hungary attended the Pro Cultura Minoritatum Hungariae awards ceremony held in the Vigadó of Buda. As many as thirteen individuals and organizations were decorated with this award, which was handed over to them by Deputy Prime Minister Zsolt Semjén, responsible – among others – for national minorities.
