Children’s Day weekend
Once again, our Office successfully participated in the Children’s Day weekend event organized in the City Park (Városliget) by Save the Children International and the Municipality of Budapest on May 27-28, 2017. On these two days, many children and adults visited the Safe Internet Tent and the Ombudsman’s Corner. As it has happened in the past few years, the older children and their parents, sometimes in joint efforts, tested their knowledge on the enforcement of children’s rights, the safe use of the internet, environmental protection, environmental awareness, the national minorities living in Hungary and the rights of these minorities through a quiz on fundamental rights and children’s rights, in the spirit of rights awareness. At the same time, the younger children had the chance to make puppets of Ombudsgoblins and Rights Fairies out of wooden spoons with the help of our staff members, and those who were even younger could fill in color-in sheets with messages of fundamental rights and the figures from our children’s rights homepage. Each child received a stamp in their children’s rights “passports”, with which they could win gift kits from the participants of the Tent four times a day, as part of sweepstakes. Our photos taken at the event also suggest that there were many creative tasks in the Tent and in the Ombudsman’s Corner, and everyone had fun there.
