null Dr. Ákos Kozma Attends Visegrád Group Ombudsman Summit

The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary took part in the summit meeting of the ombudspersons of the Visegrád Group countries entitled “Contemporary Challenges of the Ombuds’ Offices”, which was organised by the Polish ombudsman, in Wroclaw, Poland on 18-20 October 2023.

The panel discussions of the conference focused on the questions of justice, the experience gained in the implementation of OPCAT, i.e. the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, as well as the topics of equal treatment. At the end of the three-day meeting, the ombudspersons signed a joint declaration in which they expressed their commitment to the protection of human and civil rights and freedoms.
In the joint declaration, the ombudspersons stressed that “as we commemorate the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we pay tribute to the enduring principles it promotes. We are devoted thereto in ensuring that human rights are respected and protected in our respective jurisdictions.”
The Hungarian, the Polish, the Czech and the Slovak ombudspersons have held annual meetings ever since 2004, to share their experience, achievements and challenges, and to present the practices of the recent period.
