Visit of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and his colleagues to Celje Prison

On May 24-25, 2018, László Székely and his colleagues (Katalin Haraszti, deputy head of department and István Sárközy, senior legal advisor), upon the invitation of the Slovene Human Rights Ombudsman, Vlasta Nussdorfer, participated in the follow-up visit to Celje Prison and shared the experiences, working methods and good practices in connection with visiting places of detention. Deputy Ombudsman Ivan Šelih, Secretary General Kristijan Lovrak, and NPM Staff Member Robert Gačnik explained to the members of the Hungarian delegation the main findings of the earlier report on Celje Prison and the problems systematically emerging from the visits of the NPM.

On May 25, 2018, the members of the Slovenian and Hungarian delegations were welcomed by Governor Zoran Remic in the Celje Prison and Juvenile Prison. Katarina Vučko and Marko Ribać, representing the Slovenian civil Peace Institution, joined the visit. The head of the Slovenian delegation informed the institution’s governor about the purpose of the visit, after that he went through the implementation of each recommendation, then they inspected the institution and, at the end of the visit, the Slovene delegation summarized the gained experiences.

László Székely, in order to continue cooperation between NPMs, invited Ombudsman Vlasta Nussdorfer to a similar visit to Hungary.
