On 22 July 2021, the Ombudsman paid an official visit to the Békés County Prison in the framework of the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT) National Preventive Mechanism (NPM).

On 22 July 2021, the Ombudsman paid an official visit to the Békés County Prison in the framework of the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT) National Preventive Mechanism (NPM).

The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights was received by Prison Major General, Prison Senior Counsellor János Schmehl, Deputy Commander for Security and Incarceration of the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters and Prison Colonel, Prison Commander Csaba Zoltán Hafenscher, Dr. Ákos Kozma was provided detailed information, among others, on the operation of the Gyula Prison and the current number of detainees.
