null Renovation Works of Rum Children’s Home Completed

The Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters has finished the renovation works of the Rum Special Children’s Home of the Vas County Child Welfare Centre and Elementary School, in which it participated at the Ombudsman’s initiative.

On 22 December 2021, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma, Prison Colonel, Prison Counsellor, Deputy Director General for Finance and IT of the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters (BVOP) Mr. Tamás Farsang and Chief Executive Officer of the Szombathely Forestry Corporation Mr. József Bugán paid a visit to the institution, where they inspected the results of the modernisation works.

The staff members of the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights made an unannounced visit to the Children’s Home on 16 June 2021 and conducted an on-site inspection, within the framework of which they identified some deficiencies.

At the initiative of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters undertook to remedy the deficiencies related to the building identified in Ombudsman Report No. AJB-125/2021.

As part of this effort, in the recent weeks, the BVOP refurbished, among others, a group room for therapeutic activities, it fenced the courtyard, and it established premises suitable for doing sports and receiving visitors.

In addition to checking the results of the renovation works, Ombudsman Dr. Ákos Kozma donated toys and gifts to the Rum Children’s Home, which had been collected and offered to the children living there by the staff members of the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights.

Following the Christmas play performed by the residents of the Rum Special Home for Children, the Chief Executive Officer of the Szombathely Forestry Corporation and his staff also donated gifts to the children at the ceremony.
