null Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Opens Pécs Regional Office

On 24 March 2022, Ombudsman Dr. Ákos Kozma opened the Pécs Regional Office of the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights. Thus, as of 1 April, complainants will be able to initiate ombudsman’s procedures in person not only in Budapest but also in six major cities outside the capital, which is a unique achievement also in the international practice.

In addition to inquiring into complaints concerning fundamental rights or police measures, public interest disclosures or their handling, as of 1 January 2021, the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights also acts as an authority in discrimination-related cases.

The Ombudsman’s procedure may be initiated at the OCFR’s regional offices in each type of case free of charge; the costs of the inquiry are borne by the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights. At the opening ceremony, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma pointed out that “the regional offices will enhance our ability to reach out more efficiently to citizens, as well as to those people who are fleeing from the war in Ukraine to Hungary”.

Complainants will be received upon prior appointment.

In order to be able to receive clients in person from April, the officer in charge of the Pécs Regional Office of the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights will be at the disposal of all those asking for the Ombudsman’s help from tomorrow, at phone number +36-30-085-4135.
