EQUINET Recommendation on combatting discrimination and hate speech in election campaigns

Ahead of European Parliament elections in 2019, as well as continuous elections happening at local, regional and national level around Europe, Equinet - the European Network of Equality Bodies (in which network the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights is a member institution) has developed a Recommendation to be considered by political parties, candidates and media outlets (including social media) which focuses on the general principle of equality, prohibition of discrimination, tackling hate speech, addressing sensitive topics and promoting equal representation on electoral lists.

The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, Dr. Ákos Kozma, visited the Vámosszabadi Reception Centre, operated by the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing.

Dr. Kozma was joined by Dr. Domonkos Wildner, General Director for Police Complaints. They were welcomed by Brigadier General Dr. Sándor Gömbös, Director General of the Directorate-General for Aliens Policing.

On 29 October 2024, Dr. Ákos Kozma, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, and Dr. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, Deputy Commissioner for the Rights of National Minorities in Hungary, attended the meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Nationalities in Hungary. The session focused on Report no. B/7848 on the activities of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary and his deputies in 2023.
