Exhibition on the occasion of the international romani day

The Hungarian ombudsman institution celebrating its twentieth anniversary this year is hosting, within the frameworks of its anniversary celebration, an exhibition presenting several works of culture and art of the nationalities living in Hungary. An exhibition of Roma painters opens on 8 April, and an exhibition of German painters opens on 24 April in the exhibition hall of the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights at Nádor street. The events will include literary and musical performances, as well. The exhibitions are open to all those interested.

In connection with the artistic presentation of ethnic identity, Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, Deputy-Commissioner, Ombudsman for the Rights of National Minorities has also proposed to temporarily hang paintings by artists of Roma background on the walls of the offices of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, his two Deputies and the Secretary General of the Office. This way the ombudsman institution wants to demonstrate its commitment to the protection of the rights of nationalities living in Hungary, including the Roma. The terms and conditions for placing the paintings have been agreed upon by the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and the Metropolitan Educational and Cultural Centre of the Roma.

The paintings on display in the offices of the Commissioner, the Deputy-Commissioners and the Secretary General may be seen here

(All 34 paintings may be found in the digital gallery.)
