null Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and His Deputy, Ombudsman for Future Generations Plant Memorial Tree in Gúth Forest

On 30 June 2021, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma and Deputy Commissioner for Fundamental Rights, Ombudsman for Future Generations Dr. Gyula Bándi planted a whitebeam tree (Sorbus aria) in the memorial forest established in 2018 looking ahead to the World Hunting and Nature Exhibition to be held in autumn 2021 in Hungary. Whitebeam has been voted the tree of the year 2021 by forest experts and nature lovers. 

Following that, the management of Nyírerdő Zrt. and Gúth Forestry showed the visitors around in the framework of a guided tour, pointing out several sites to them, and presenting the forest management of the area, as well as the best practices and challenges related to forestry and wild game management. Later on, the group paid a visit to the ruins of a 13th-century monastery located in the forest outside Nyíradony, the ruins of the church of Gúth (a listed monument), where they were also given a historical introduction. The programme was also attended by Péter Zambó, Minister of State for Forests, Sándor Szentpéteri, Deputy Minister of State for Forests, and Dr. Árpád Szalacsi, CEO of Nyírerdő Zrt.
