Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Visits Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Remand Prison
Dr. Ákos Kozma and his staff members conducted an on-site inspection at the Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County Remand Prison on 15 February 2024 in the framework of the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture (OPCAT) National Preventive Mechanism (NPM). The Ombudsman was received by Prison Major General, Deputy Director General for Security and Incarceration Mr. János Schmehl, Prison Colonel, head of cluster No. 5 Mr. Csaba Sinkó, Governor of the Tiszalök National Prison, as well as Prison Lieutenant, acting governor of the institution Mr. Ottó Pallay.

Dr. Ákos Kozma, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, paid an official visit to Bucharest on 18 January 2024, where he had a meeting with the Romanian People’s Advocate, Ms. Renate Weber. During the bilateral meeting, the two Ombudspersons discussed their current working relationship, its growth, and how to strengthen it further. They also explored potential avenues for future collaboration.

The Ombudsman was received by Prison Major General, Deputy Director General for Finance and Detention of the Hungarian Prison Service Headquarters János Schmehl, as well as Prison Lieutenant Colonel, Prison Commander László Fazekas.
Meeting of Disability Advisory Board Held in Debrecen
Chaired by Ombudsman Dr. Ákos Kozma, the meeting of the Disability Advisory Board, which consists of the representatives of the organisations active in various fields of disability in Hungary was held at the General Directorate of Disability of the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary in Debrecen on 15 November 2023. This board assists the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary in performing his tasks related to the independent mechanism under the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
