Commissioner and His Deputy Visit Tarnabod

On 16 June 2020, Dr. Ákos Kozma, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and Dr. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay, Deputy Commissioner for the Rights of National Minorities visited the settlement of Tarnabod in Heves County. The Ombudsman and his Deputy were received by Miklós Vecsei, Vice-President of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta, the Prime Minister’s appointee for the coordination of the preparation and implementation of the diagnosis-based catch-up strategy for Roma.

Dr. Ákos Kozma and Dr. Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay paid a visit to the “Biztos Kezdet” (Sure Start) Children’s House, where children younger than three take part in classes together with their parents. They were also shown around at the kindergarten and primary school operated by the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta since 2011. In addition, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights and the Ombudsman for the Rights of National Minorities visited the “Tanoda” of Tarnabod – i.e. the talent support centre of the settlement –, as well as the electronic dissembling facility providing employment for twenty-six breadwinners in the neighbourhood.
