null Visits of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights During the State of Danger

The Commissioner for Fundamental Rights carried out forty on-site inspections in Hungary during the state of danger that had been ordered on 11 March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As opposed to the international ombudsman practice, which put more emphasis on holding events online, Dr. Ákos Kozma paid personal visits all over Hungary in order to survey the measures taken for the prevention of the coronavirus pandemic. In full compliance with the relevant protective measures, Dr. Ákos Kozma inspected six children’s homes, seven social care institutions and foster homes, and he also visited, among others, the Emergency Centre of the Coronavirus Operational Group and the Kiskunhalas Mobile Disease Control Hospital. Furthermore, the Ombudsman inspected six facilities belonging to the National Police Headquarters, the National Directorate General for Disaster Management and the Hungarian Defence Forces, and he also paid a visit to twelve border crossing points, two juvenile reformatories and five prison establishments.
